The voice input of lichess is a game changer!

Lichess voice input

Lichess, the popular online chess platform which is absolutely free for any player out there, has introduced a remarkable feature known as The voice input option, that revolutionizes the way players interact with the game. By leveraging cutting-edge voice recognition technology, Lichess allows users to make their moves using spoken commands instead of the conventional mouse or keyboard inputs. YESSSS IT'S TRUE!

The voice input option on Lichess offers a number of benefits that significantly enhance the chess-playing experience. One of its most notable advantages is the increased accessibility it provides to a wider range of players. People with physical disabilities or motor impairments may find it challenging to move a mouse or keyboard accurately. However, with the voice recognition technology, these individuals can actively participate in the online games without any limitations. By simply speaking their moves, they can continue the game without any impediment or hindrance.

To implement the voice input option effectively, Lichess employs advanced voice recognition technology. This system is designed to accurately interpret spoken chess moves, regardless of the user's language or accent. Whether English, Spanish, German, Italian or any other supported language, players can confidently utilize their native language to communicate their moves to the platform. Lichess ensures that the voice input option remains inclusive and accessible to players from different parts of the world.

To activate the voice input option, players typically require a microphone connected to their device. This microphone can be either built-in or external, depending on the user's preference. The spoken commands are then captured by the microphone and transmitted to Lichess for processing. Through sophisticated algorithms, the platform translates the voice input into the corresponding chess move, accurately reflecting the player's intentions on the digital chessboard.

While the voice input option offers immense convenience, Lichess incorporates certain safeguards to prevent misuse or accidental moves. The platform understands the importance of maintaining the integrity of the game and ensuring fair play. Therefore, additional verification steps may be implemented to confirm the accuracy of spoken moves. This could involve players confirming their intended move after vocalizing it or providing supplementary verification measures to ensure the move is intentional. These precautions help maintain a fair and reliable playing environment for all users.

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE: I have personally used the voice input option a number of times in different formats. After playing a number of games the thing that I have observed is, this voice input option is only effective in the longer format games (Rapid chess or classical chess) or games with increment. It takes decent amount of time to record a move and execute it. So a player might end up losing crucial amount of time if he intends to use it in blitz or bullet games. As it considers all the possible moves of that specific piece, giving you a chance of rectifying it if the command is misunderstood.

Here below you'll find the way to activate the voice input option and implement it in your game.

Homepage of lichess

This is the homepage of the lichess. As you can see in the extreme right corner, you'll find the Profile option, and once you click on it, it'll redirect you to these options. Here you select the "Preferences" section.

And that's how you have successfully added the voice input option. But it doesn't start working automatically, you'll see a game and a section in the next photo where you have to activate it.

Demonstration of how voice input works

Here you can see just below the search option is the blue voice input section. All you have to do is click on it during the game and it'll be activated. If you want to deactivate it, you have to click the same thing.

Here my voice input was Bg6. But it considers all the bishops moves and also the other pieces that can reach the g6 square. Though you can see that the green arrow represents the correct move every single time! So keep an eye for it.

Conclusion: The voice input option on Lichess represents a remarkable advancement in the world of online chess. The platform's commitment to inclusivity, innovation, and user experience is simply impeccable. By embracing voice recognition technology, Lichess provides an immersive and enjoyable online chess-playing experience. Whether you are a casual player seeking convenience or a dedicated chess enthusiast looking for new ways to engage with the game, the voice input option on Lichess offers a groundbreaking approach to playing chess online.
